Zurich Opera House

Zurich supports the passionate interplay between the disciplines and advocates new performance formats that are open to a wide-ranging and young audience.

Accordeon Title

CORALINE - Family opera in two acts for children from 8 years.

The family opera by the British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage (*1960) is based on the story of the same name by Neil Gaiman, which has already been very successfully filmed.

It tells the story of a courageous girl whose unusual name shows that not everything is always as it seems. Coraline's fantastic and sinister experiences are reminiscent of literary classics such as Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland or E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Sandman, yet they tell a very modern coming-of-age story.

Ballet for all

Since 2014, Zurich has been treating the general public to opera with its "Opera for all."

Every summer, the city of Zurich and the Zurich Opera House invite the public to a free open-air opera performance at Sechseläutenplatz. The event has become a mainstay of Zurich's cultural scene.

Following five successful years of "Opera for all" with more than 10,000 visitors, the first "Ballet for all" will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

The moving story of Romeo and Juliet will be projected live from the Opera House onto the big screen. Choreographer and ballet director Christian Spuck uses powerful and emotional images to relate the most famous love story in world literature. The Zurich Ballet and the Junior Ballet dance to the colorful and expressive music of composer Sergei Prokofiev. The Philharmonia Zurich will play under the direction of Michail Jurowski.
